What's up in Forest Park?

Posted by Véronique Vanblaere on

They say patience is a virtue. We must be quite virtuous in Forest Park. But thank goodness it's finally paying off!

"Rougaroux" opened on Friday October 20th,
just in time for Third Friday in Forest Park: This New Orleans "Po Boys" style eatery is located in the former Pink House Café, right here in Forest Park! It has been extremely successful and we are happy to have such a unique restaurant in Forest Park!
Created by the owners of Hot Box, which has been serving delicious international fare for a few years out of the little Airstream trailer at Parkside in Avondale. Find out more about Rougaroux here.

In the former Naked Art house right next to Silvertron Café, SHOPPE, a garden store, had a soft opening during the October Third Friday event.
Grand opening date is planned on Friday November 10th.

We couldn't be happier to welcome our new neighbors Mark, Jay and Cedar, the shop puppy! They have been working very hard on the new space, that includes a beautiful glass green house for tropical plants. A path linking Shoppe and Naked Art is in the works, behind the greenhouse, which will facilitate circulation between the store and the gallery.

The greenhouse going up!

Whisting Table, the soon to be brick and mortar version of the Shindigs food truck will move in the former VRichards location (estimated date: December).
Construction began in August and has shown no sign of interruption.
The restaurant will features organic and locally sourced dishes and a "grab and go" market area!

The former Full Circle space, previously occupied by Maralyn Wilson Gallery has changed hands... and may be another space for art in the future!

Forest Park was little Hollywood last Thursday, a film crew took over Clairmont Avenue and Silvertron Café for filming scenes of the movie "Bigger".
They have been filming all over Birmingham in October, our city apparently has a good bit of buildings corresponding to the movie's time period.

Le Tour de Ham is going back to Silvertron Cafe' for the winter. The ride will start and end in the old V. Richards parking lot across from Naked Art Gallery. There is construction and there will be some equipment in the parking area, but riders have been welcomed to use the lot! Special thanks to Shindigs Catering
Ride will still roll out at 6:15. It will be dark. Front and rear lights required!
All riders will enjoy a 10% discount on food at Silvertron' Cafe after the ride!

The next Third Friday will be November 17th, Foresr Park will be in Holiday mode! Get merchants' specials, events and art installation info on the Third Friday in Forest Park event page.

Congratulations to Corey Webb for winning the Tour de Loo!
Every Third Friday, the Forest Park merchants’ loos are transformed into art installations by local artists. Robin Richeson Colter, Creative Director at B-Metro magazine judged the installations and the best artist will be awarded a $300 prize sponsored by LeafFilter Gutter Protection!
"Psychedelic Cervine" by Corey Webb at Naked Art Gallery. You can still see all installations at Zoe, Naked Art and Silvertron Café until November 9th!
