Japan series - Geisha - original drawing
By Veronique VanblaereGeisha are professional entertainers who attend to guests during meals and other occasions. They are trained in traditional Japanese arts, such as dance and music, as well as in the art of conversation.
Geisha and geisha aspirants live in special houses, young girls move there typically at age 15 to become geishas years later. Participants at a dinner eat and drink while being entertained by the geisha. Her task is to engage in witty conversation with their guests, while keeping everybody's glasses filled and playing games that involves drinking.
The cultural highlight of the evening is the geisha’s performance of a dance, accompanied by traditional music.
The typical location for a geisha dinner are ochaya (tea houses). They are highly exclusive places that will grant entry only by referral from a trusted customer.
Drawing in ink and watercolor on watercolor paper. 5X7" matted to 8x10”.
I usually draw a few of each illustration instead of making prints, as it allows my customers to get an original drawing at an affordable price, which end up being less than what a print would cost. And each is still unique.
